Art Direction, Branding, Print Design, UX & UI Design

Civvy St. is an online store selling beautiful homeware and household products - the packaging, branding and digital presence illustrate the core ‘British Made’ theme of the business in a simple, utilitarian style. Originating as a live degree brief from home garden company ALLOTINABOX, the project has since grown into a full e-commerce branding and digital experience concept.

Defining Key User Flows & Information Architecture: To define the Information Architecture and structure for the site I planned the overall sitemap and hierarchy of content in conjunction with core user journeys for achieving key goals on the site. Primary goals included purchasing a product or making a return, while secondary goals included checking delivery/shipping policies or learning about the Civvy St brand.

Branding & Identity: The branding of Civvy St. is inspired by the British WW2 way of life - from everyday slang to propaganda poster designs, food packaging and ration books. The logo was inspired by the stamps on WW2 Ration Books, while the name Civvy St. derives from British WW2 slang meaning civilian life.

Packaging & Prints: Sustainability was a key principle to consider; as well as using recyclable papers, the packaging was designed to serve a dual purpose with WW2 recipes printed on the back, which could be cut out and re-used, reducing the wastage of materials.
